On June 18, 1901, at the beginning of the 20th century, Lutheran clergy and laypeople united to pioneer a groundbreaking initiative: the establishment of a shared financial institution. This institution was envisioned to provide affordable loans aimed at assisting new mission congregations across Michigan in constructing their inaugural worship facilities.
Thus, the Church Extension Fund in Michigan was born, marking a humble yet pivotal moment in our Lutheran heritage. Since its inception, this fund has been dedicated to supporting the growth and establishment of churches throughout the state, ensuring that communities have the resources necessary to build and sustain their places of worship.
