                                      Ladies Guild

All the Lady members of the St John's Lutheran Church are automatic members of the
Ladies Guild.

The Ladies Guild meets once a month to discuss issues pertaining to the church and the
different missions they support.

The Ladies Guild sponsors three money making events during the year.
The Treasure Sale in the spring.
The Cookie Walk White Elephant Sale in the Fall.
The Money from these events goes to support the different missions and things
they decide the church needs.

The Ladies also handles the Funeral Dinner Hospitality.

          Sewing Circle

This group meets on Monday mornings at 9 am during fall, winter and spring. Using donated materials primarily, blocks are cut, sewn together, placed on a frame with a backing and center filling and tied off with crochet yarn. The edges are bound by machine to finish the quilt. Each year about 100 quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief for distribution around the world. Some quilts and lap blankets are distributed locally to organizations serving elderly, veterans, and children and persons in need.

The tasks involved are quite easy, some can be done at home and no experience is necessary. Anyone interested is welcome to drop in and learn more about projects which are underway.
See picture at the end of the page.

Here is where our quilts go:

   Funeral Dinner Hospitality

Funeral dinners are an important ministry, giving the bereaved family and friends a time to gather, share fellowship and reminisce. It is also an opportunity for those who may be unfamiliar with the fellowship of the congregation to establish new associations. Our Guild organizes and serves luncheons/ dinners in accordance with family preferences. This is a ministry in which members of the congregation volunteer to prepare food and serve those who attend.

             Lutheran Women’s Missionary League

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) is the official women’s auxiliary of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. For over 75 years, the LWML has focused on affirming each woman’s relationship with Christ, encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries and to support global missions.

The mission of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League is to assist each woman of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod in affirming her relationship with the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in ministry to the people of the world.

Mite Boxes are used to collect money quarterly for mission grants which can further God’s kingdom locally and around the world. Grant projects are selected by delegates at district and national conventions. Twenty-five percent of the mite offering is sent to LWML for national and international mission grants. The remaining seventy-five percent is used for Michigan district mission projects.

There is a great article on Mites on the LWML Web Site.
